Short Description:

TZM (titanium, zirconium, molybdenum) Alloy Plate

Molybdenum’s prime alloy is TZM. This alloy contains 99.2% min. To 99.5% max. Of Mo, 0.50% Ti and 0.08% Zr with a trace of C for carbide formations. TZM offers twice the strength of pure moly at temperatures over 1300′C. The recrystallization temperature of TZM is approximately 250′C higher than moly and it offers better weldability.
The finer grain structure of TZM and the formation of TiC and ZrC in the grain boundaries of the moly inhibit grain growth and the related failure of the base metal as a result of fractures along the grain boundaries. This also gives it better properties for welding. TZM costs approximately 25% more than pure molybdenum and costs only about 5-10% more to machine. For high strength applications such as rocket nozzles, furnace structural components, and forging dies, it can be well worth the cost differential.

For thin sheet, the surface are bright as mirror. It could also be alkaline wash surface, polished surface, sandblasting surface.

Applications

Used as a high-temperature structural material, such as the wall of a high temperature furnace and a the heat screen of HIP.

Tool materials for high-temperature processing: such as die-casting molds and cores for manufacturing aluminum and copper alloy, cast iron and Fe-series alloy; hot extrusion tools for stainless steel and so on,as well as piercing plugs for hot processing of seamless steel pipes.

Glass furnace stirrers, head pieces etc.

Radiation shields, support frames, heat exchangers and track bars for nuclear energy equipment.

TZM is widely used in aviation, aerospace and other fields, such as nozzle material, gas pipe material, electronic pipe material, etc. TZM is also used in semiconductor products and medical fields, such as cathode components in X-ray targets. TZM can also be used to make heating body and heat shield in high temperature furnace, as well as to cast light alloy, etc.
